summer 2016--SUBMISSIONS HAVE CLOSED
© Problem House 2016-2018
the theme of our first contest is problem house, which of course is our name. it's also the literal and inaccurate translation of munjechib, a korean word that refers to large test-prep books.
we are looking for short stories that show us something unexpected. something inside of something else. the mess. the problem. the thing lost in translation. the misunderstanding or mistake. a home falling or fallen down. a home barely staying together.
we are especially interested in work with a global perspective. this is no requirement for a winning submission.
to submit, please email your story as a .docx or .pdf to firstname.lastname@example.org. stories should be between 500-10,000 words. stories should somehow engage with the theme as we have just now (briefly) described it.
please write SUBMISSION: [YOUR NAME] as the subject of your email and provide a short bio in the email itself.
please don't submit if you don't consider yourself an emerging writer.
the deadline to submit is october 1, 2016. we will announce a winner by halloween.
the winner will receive $500 and will be published on our site. up to two finalists will receive $250 each.
we reserve the right not to choose a winning story, if we feel we don't have any that are winning enough.
please only submit once.
thank you. we look forward to reading.
